Our history

Our dojo was started back in the early 1970s by Sensei Robert Sidoli (Lewis) as the Chief Instructor.  Sensei Harry was introduced to karate through an introductory karate program that was offered at Abbotsford Recreation Commission during the summer of 1975, and then began his formal training under Sensei Robert Sidoli (Lewis) at Bakerview Elementary School in 1977.

Ever since its inception, the City of Abbotsford has recognized the value of karate in the community.  Over the years, we have had thousands of students of all ages.  Although our primary focus is on traditional karate rather than tournament or sport karate, some of our students have gone on to compete in the Nationals, and we have also brought gold medals back from the Canadian Open and from BC Provincial Championships.

Sensei Harry Sidhu has been the Chief Instructor at Abbotsford Shotokan Karate since he resurrected the dojo in 1995.  Since then, he has introduced karate to children and teenagers at a variety of schools, Abbotsford Recreation Centre, and to teens and adults throughout the Fraser Valley in various settings.
